The Department of Art and Art History is comprised of three disciplines in the visual arts: art education, art history, and studio art, including ceramics, graphic design, illustration, painting/drawing, photography/digital imaging, printmaking, sculpture intermedia. The faculty-student ratio is low to allow for individual attention, and faculty mentoring is a strong part of our mission.

  • This course introduces the history of art by investigating the ways in which art has developed and functioned within past and present world cultures. It also examines the changing methods of interpretation that are elicited from the study of the art of the past and used in the contemporary discipline of art history. Focuses on analyzing works of art, using both traditional and contemporary approaches and perspectives, for the purpose of understanding the relationship between artistic expression and cultural context.
